GIN GAME, THE - PBS HOLLYWOOD PRESENTS (PBS 5/4/03) HARD TO FIND!!! Dick Van Dyke, Mary Tyler Moore
Two legends. One game. A battle of wit, memory, and heartbreak.
In this skillful TV-movie adaptation of D.L. Coburn’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore reunite in their first acting performance together since The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961–66).
Presented as part of PBS’s Hollywood Presents series, The Gin Game is a powerfully bittersweet comedy that follows the relationship that develops between two elderly nursing home residents—Fonsia Dorsey (Moore) and Weller Martin (Van Dyke)—during a series of gin rummy games in which their ailments, misfortunes, and losses are exposed in funny, honest, and increasingly heated moments.
What begins as playful competition gradually transforms into a deeper confrontation with the past, as emotional scars and unspoken regrets rise to the surface. This riveting stage-to-screen production showcases two beloved stars in roles unlike any they've played before—raw, poignant, and unforgettable.
