MISTER PEEPERS - THE COLLECTION (1952-1955) VERY RARE!!! HARD TO FIND!!! Wally Cox, Tony Randall, Marion Lornem Jack Warden, Nancy Remington, Ruth McDevitt, Georgann Johnson, Sylvia Field, Ernest Truex
Step back into the golden age of live television with Mister Peepers, the beloved NBC comedy that charmed America from 1952 to 1955.
Starring the unforgettable Wally Cox as Robinson J. Peepers, the shy but endearing junior high school science teacher, the series delighted viewers with its gentle humor, heartwarming stories, and timeless characters.
Follow Peepers’ awkward but touching journey as he navigates classroom challenges, the ups and downs of friendship with the confident history teacher Harvey Weskit (Tony Randall), and his tender romance with the kindhearted school nurse Nancy Remington (Patricia Benoit).
The show’s colorful supporting cast added even more sparkle. Marion Lorne played the delightfully scatterbrained Mrs. Gurney—the junior high English teacher with fluttery mannerisms, a heart of gold, and comic timing that could steal any scene. Before she was Aunt Clara on Bewitched, Lorne was already perfecting her signature mix of warmth, whimsy, and wonderfully gentle eccentricity. Also featured were Ernest Truex, Sylvia Field, and Ruth McDevitt as Rob's mother, in memorable recurring roles that rounded out the school and community.
The series also featured Georgann Johnson as Marge Weskit, Harvey’s charming wife, and Jack Warden as Coach Frank Whip. (Unfortunately, this set only includes Warden’s first appearance as Coach Whip, though he is also seen in an earlier episode playing a cabbie.)
Unlike the loud, slapstick comedies of its era, Mister Peepers found its charm in the small details of everyday life, winning over millions of viewers with warmth, subtle wit, and a big heart.
Originally broadcast live, the episodes of Mister Peepers survive today thanks to kinescope recordings—a process that filmed a television monitor to capture each broadcast. Though technically primitive by modern standards, kinescopes have ensured that this pioneering sitcom can be enjoyed more than half a century later. A few episodes in the collection are a bit rough, but thankfully preserved through kinescopes.
Now, audiences can once again experience the simple joys of Mister Peepers, a true classic of early television comedy.
