Groundbreaking, warm, and ahead of its time, Julia stars Diahann Carroll as Julia Baker, a widowed nurse raising her young son, Corey (Marc Copage), after her Air Force pilot husband is killed during the Vietnam War. Determined to build a new life, Julia relocates to Los Angeles, where she balances the challenges of single motherhood with a rewarding career at the medical office of Astrospace Industries.

Working alongside the compassionate Dr. Morton Chegley (Lloyd Nolan) and head nurse Hannah Yarby (Lurene Tuttle), Julia navigates the joys and struggles of everyday life with intelligence, humor, and dignity. At home, Corey shares countless adventures with his best friend, Earl J. Waggedorn (Michael Link), while their neighbors—including Earl's parents, Len (Hank Brandt) and Marie Waggedorn (Betty Beaird), landlord Sol Cooper (Ned Glass), and family friend Carol Deering (Allison Mills)—create a close-knit community.

Julia's personal life also blossoms as she begins dating once again. During the first two seasons, her primary romantic interest is Paul Cameron (Paul Winfield), while the final season introduces Steve Bruce (Fred Williamson), a widowed father whose young daughter, Kim (Stephanie James), becomes a friend to Corey.

Premiering in 1968, Julia broke new ground as the first successful network television series since the 1950s to feature an African American woman in the starring role. Diahann Carroll's Emmy-nominated performance as an independent, professional Black woman made television history and helped redefine how African Americans were portrayed on prime-time television. The series earned critical acclaim, strong ratings, and remains an important milestone in the evolution of American television.
