ART, ACTING AND THE SUICIDE CHAIR: DENNIS HOPPER (1988) RARE!!! HARD TO FIND!!! George Hickenlooper, Dennis Hopper
After graduating from Yale University with a degree in film studies, George Hickenlooper (Cassino Jack, Mayor of the Sunset Strip) headed west to pursue a career in Hollywood. He soon landed an internship with legendary filmmaker Roger Corman, during which he began work on his first professional film project. The result was Art, Acting and the Suicide Chair: Dennis Hopper (1988), a short 22-minute documentary examining the high-intensity actor and director.
Driven by a fascination with the filmmaking process, Hickenlooper crafted an intimate portrait of Hopper, who had recently appeared in a memorable supporting role in Apocalypse Now.
Through candid interviews, Hickenlooper explores Hopper’s artwork, his turbulent but influential career in film, and his reflections on the state of cinema in the 1980s.
