SULLIVAN SHOW - Ed Sullivan, Henry Fonda, Irving Berlin, Joel Grey, Kate Smith, Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, Charlton Heston, Carl Sandburg
In the 1950s and early 1960s, The Ed Sullivan Show captured America’s deep passion for the Red, White and Blue. In his own inimitable style, Ed Sullivan brought together an extraordinary group of American icons to celebrate the spirit of our nation. Among those featured were poet Carl Sandburg, appointed Poet Laureate of the United States by President John F. Kennedy; beloved Western stars Roy Rogers and Dale Evans; acclaimed actors Charlton Heston and Henry Fonda; the legendary Kate Smith; composer Irving Berlin; Broadway star Joel Grey, and many more.
Sullivan also paid tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, presenting inspiring performances by drill teams and glee clubs representing our nation’s military academies. In a moving salute to America’s soldiers, he featured Sgt. Barry Sadler performing his smash hit, “The Ballad of the Green Berets.“
