Based on Malice in Maggody, the first novel in Joan Hess's popular Arly Hanks mystery series, Arly Hanks Mysteries is a 1993 television pilot that blends mystery, humor, and Southern charm. Written by Sean Clark and directed by Arlene Sanford, the film stars Kate Jackson as Arly Hanks, a sharp-witted former New York police officer who returns to her small Arkansas hometown to become sheriff.

When a suspicious murder rocks the close-knit community, Arly finds herself navigating a web of eccentric townspeople, long-buried secrets, and dangerous deception. Armed with determination, intelligence, and a no-nonsense attitude, she sets out to uncover the truth before the killer strikes again.
