Before he became immortal as lovable Grandpa Munster on the classic TV sitcom The Munsters, veteran character actor Al Lewis built an impressive career playing colorful, tough, and often unforgettable characters on some of television’s finest dramatic series. Known for his sharp comic timing, gravelly voice, and larger-than-life personality, Lewis first teamed with Fred Gwynne on Car 54, Where Are You? before the duo reunited as Herman and Grandpa Munster. Beloved by generations of fans, Al Lewis passed away on February 3, 2006, in New York City at the age of 82.
