Veteran physician Dr. Victor Briggs (Leif Erickson) oversees a modest country hospital where modern medicine meets old-fashioned values. Joining him are his son, Dr. Calvin Briggs (Robert Foxworth), a former Vietnam medic eager to put his experience to good use, Dr. Jimmy Martin (Jonathan Goldsmith), and compassionate nurse Michelle Johnson (Kate Jackson). Together, the younger generation of caregivers faces the challenge of earning the trust and respect of the area's farmers, ranchers, and longtime residents while working alongside more experienced medical professionals.

Featuring an outstanding supporting cast that includes Burgess Meredith, William Windom, Karl Swenson, Susan Moffitt, Barbara Baldwin, and William Bryant, this engaging drama offers a thoughtful look at rural medicine, community values, and the personal dedication required to care for others.
