The Brady Bunch Hour began as a 60-minute television special, The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, produced by Sid and Marty Krofft and broadcast on ABC on November 28, 1976. The special's success led to a short-lived weekly series, with eight additional one-hour episodes airing between January and May 1977.

The entire Brady family returns, featuring Robert Reed, Florence Henderson, Maureen McCormick, Barry Williams, Christopher Knight, Susan Olsen, and Mike Lookinland. The only original cast member absent is Eve Plumb, who declined to participate. Her role as Jan Brady was filled by Geri Reischl, forever remembered by fans as the "Fake Jan." Ann B. Davis also returns as Alice, the Brady family's beloved housekeeper.
