Premiering in 1972, this fun psychedelic Sid & Marty Krofft production was their fourth television show following The Banana Splits, H.R. Pufnstuf and The Bugaloos. As did its predecessors, the series combined two types of characters: conventional actors in makeup filmed alongside performers in full mascot costumes, whose voices were dubbed in post-production.

Story: When Mark (Butch Patrick, The Munsters) visits a theme park's magic show, he becomes mesmerized by the magician’s top hat and the tricks it processes.  After the show he lagged behind the rest of the crowd and snuck backstage hoping to discover the hat’s magical powers.  When he touched the hat, the room began to glow, and the hat grew large.  When Mark climbed upon the hat’s brim to look inside it began to shake violently, causing him to fall inside, sending him to a bizarre world called Lidsville inhabited by live talking hats!

There Mark is befriended by a rather inept, but kind-hearted, Genie named Weenie (Billie Hays, Witchiepoo from H.R. Pufnstuf) along with the Good Hats, including British Col. Poom, Miss Ring-A-Ding (a party hat), Nursy, the Chinese Mr. Chow, Tonsolini (an Opera Singing Hat), Mother Wheels (a motorcycle/helmet), Rah-Rah (a football helmet), etc.

There are also the Bad Hats, who are the flunkies of the evil magician Horatio Hoo-Doo (Charles Nelson Reilly). Hoo-Doo’s right hand is Raunchy Rabbit (Sharon Baird). Hoo-Doo is furious at the Good Hats for not acknowledging him as their Lord and Master, and for not paying him taxes. He also hates Mark for continually helping the Good Hats plan revolts against him.

The complete collection of 17 magical episodes are available on 4 DVDs.
