Filmed on January 29, 1980, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, Because We Care aired on CBS on February 5, 1980, as a star-studded, two-hour television special benefiting famine victims in Cambodia.

Funds were raised through ticket sales for the taping and public donations made during a live phone-a-thon when the concert aired. The event generated more than $1.1 million for Operation USA’s relief efforts, helping provide urgently needed medicine, food and supplies to Southeast Asia.
