YOUNG REBELS, THE - THE COMPLETE SERIES (ABC 1970-71) VERY RARE!!! Rick Ely, Philippe Forquet, Alex Henteloff, Louis Gossett, Jr., Hilary Thompson

Adventure, espionage and revolution come together in this historical adventure series from producer Aaron Spelling.

Set in 1777 in Chester, Pennsylvania, The Young Rebels follows the Yankee Doodle Society, a secret band of young patriots working behind British lines. While publicly pretending indifference to the war, they gather intelligence, sabotage enemy operations and risk their lives for American independence.

Leading the group is Jeremy Larkin (Rick Ely), the younger son of Chester’s mayor. His companions include Henry Abington (Alex Henteloff), a pharmacist’s son whose inventive talents make him the group’s explosives expert, and Isak Poole (Louis Gossett, Jr.), a skilled blacksmith and former slave who purchased his freedom. Jeremy’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Coates (Hilary Thompson), sometimes joins their dangerous missions.

The Society reports directly to the young General Lafayette (Philippe Forquet), who occasionally takes part in their operations. Each episode draws loosely on a historical event, blending Revolutionary War intrigue with action and adventure.

Originally broadcast on ABC from September 20, 1970, through January 3, 1971, The Young Rebels faced stiff competition from Lassie and The Wonderful World of Disney. Despite extensive promotion and the teen-idol appeal of Rick Ely and Philippe Forquet, the series ended after just 15 episodes.
